Chennai

We spent Sunday wandering around Chennai and looking for clothes to wear to Ananth sand Darshi's wedding. Tahlia had her first experience riding in an auto rickshaw. Because there seems to be no enforcement of any road rules, it was any exciting. We were very successful in our shopping with both getting wthe clothes we needed.

Later in the afternoon we went to Marina Beach to wander the beachfront. Because it was Sunday, everyone dresses in their beast clothes and wanders around with friends and family. Little did we know it was to become a very weird experience. Appaently I look like a Wrestler on FOXTEL and was followed around by the young guys. Tahlia became the girl of the moment.

Chennai has 6.8 million people and it seemed that at least the 0.8 million of them were at Marina beach. The beach front is about 500m wide and the beach front about 5km long. At the water the it was standing room only and not much better at least 200m back.

As Tahlia moved along the beach families would gather for her to take a photo and then take great delight in viwing the photo. She then would be grabbed by the next group. It seemed that word passed along the beach that we were coming. A couple of times Tahlia had 20 people mobbed around her either looking at the photos or wanting a photo taken.

There was also vendors selling sweets and BBQ fish. It had a great carnival atmosphere. There was even a little girl walking on a tight rope. She looked only about 10 years old.

We ended up leaving the beach and wandering along the roadside where Thalia was even stopped by people in cars or on scooters for a photo. It was so much fun.
