Hi. Just a quick note. We arrived in Trivandrum 'Thiruvananthapuram which was previously called Trivandrum is an ancient city with tradition dating back to 1000 BC. Thiruvananthapuram became the capital of Raja of Travancore in 1750.' It is on the west coast of India .
We straight away caught an auto-rickshaw to another village about 16km away, called Kovalam. On the beach, palm trees, fishing boats on the beach and totally unbelievable. Kovalam started out as a quite fishing village but in the '60s and '70s became a hippy centric location (hey Thalia pass me the some more green.......(tea)).
We had dinner tonight watching the sunset over the west coast (OK we aren't from Perth, but we are further west) from a balcony of a restaurant, eating 10 fresh tiger prawns. Our room looks over the beach. A the beach are many hotels and vendors trying to sell their wares.

Great - can we add prawns to the menu now? Vegewhat?
Hi Gary and Tahlia
The road trip I talked about was from Calicut or Kozhikode to Mysore. You could either take a bus or a private taxi( about Rs 8000. The bus winds through the western ghats in to Wayanad. You get to see some beautiful forests and tea gardens. If you are lucky you might get to see wild elephants.
On your way up from Trivandrum, stop over at Silent Valley National Park just past Thrissur. Have fun.
